Scampston Walled Garden

Scampston Walled GardenScampston is amongst the best examples of the English country house, set in C18th 'capability' Brown parkland. The Hall combines fine Regency architecture with a wealth of art treasures from earlier periods.  Recently restored to its former glory, the house was voted Country Life 'House of the Year', and was featured in 'Hidden Treasure Houses' on FIVE in 2006 and 2007. Visitors are shown round this family home by the owner and other guides. This is also a delightful and intimate wedding venue/location.

Piet Oudolf (b.1944, Haarlem, Netherlands) and his wife, Anja, founded their nursery at Hummelo, Arnhem in 1982, having collected material widely throughout Northern Europe. Piet is a pioneer of the concept of gardening with grasses. This demanded an innovative approach not only in the style of planting but also in the design of gardens, so that the colour and movement of what are now called perennial meadows could be fully exploited.

The Restaurant
The restaurant is open from 10.00 to 17.00 daily, except Mondays, (Open BH Mons) from 22 March to 2 November, serving coffee, delicious home made light lunches and teas; evening meals will be available on a regular basis during the season, but please ring the restaurant (01944 759000) or refer to the website for dates and details
The Garden restaurant welcomes group bookings during the day; it is also a perfect venue for wedding receptions, birthdays, corporate entertaining and barbeques out of normal opening hours. Please contact the events team on 01765 641920.

"For quality and location it's possibly the best. Set in a stunning Walled Garden, it provides a light airy setting for the preparation and cooking of locally inspired dishes. As a stylish destination for a light country lunch there are few places to rival it". Robert Cockcroft, Yorkshire Post Magazine

Woodland Walk (New for 2008)
Through the front gardens of the hall, over the Palladian Bridge and into the woods, past the Ice house and over the cascade into the park. A wide variety of bird and wildlife can be seen on the lakes and in the woods. Dogs are not allowed on the woodland, but can be taken for a walk in the park on a lead.

A Wide selection of plants are available for sale; these include some of the rare and unusual species which can be seen in the garden. A plant 'order and collect' service is also available.
The Head gardener is pleased to give lectures to clubs and societies within easy reach of Scampston, whenever possible.
Plant Fair - 1st June 2008
A wide range of quality national nurseries will be represented at our first ever fair, including Grasses, shrubs, alpines and Herbaceous.
