Food Lovers Take First Malton Festival to Their Heart 2009

Michelin Star Chef Andrew Pern today launches the first ever Food Lover's Festival in Malton

Malton is launching the We Love Malton Food Lover's Festival to highlight its devotion to good food and drink, and the many high quality shops and eateries on offer for visitors.

The Festival, on Saturday May 30th 2009, will be based in the heart of the town, in the historic Market Square.

Andrew Pern Chef/Patron from Michelin starred acclaimed The Star at Harome will be demonstrating his top notch culinary flair using produce from local producers and retailers in the town in the Delicious Yorkshire sponsored Cooking Theatre and signing his award winning book “Black Pudding & Foie Gras.” Other chefs from well known restaurants and delis in the town will also be showcasing their culinary skills with local produce.

All the food shops in the town will be preparing Festival offerings and the many places to eat and drink will have special dishes on the menu.

Andrew Pern, said at the launch: 'This is fantastic news for Malton, as it has some top quality food shops and eateries and it's a great opportunity to celebrate them and showcase the best the town has to offer. Locals and visitors alike cannot fail to be impressed - I'm sure this will be the start of a real love affair with food.'

On Festival day both the Saturday and the Farmer's Markets will be in full progress, along with a poultry and plant auction. A ‘name the lamb’ and a sheep shearing competitions will be held and a kids fancy dress contest will give the day all the fun of the fair.

The Festival will be completely free to visit and there will be parking concessions.

Mayor Jane Ford, also present at the launch, said: "This is just what our town needs to show off our wonderful local produce and all it has to offer".

The specially made bread "Heart" was baked by Stephen Shaw of The Fine Food Theatre from organic Yorkshire flour. Stephen will make mini versions of the Heart for his shop, and sees it as the first new line to promote the Festival. Also joining in the Festival launch celebrations were children from Malton School.
