Malton hosted First Food Lover's Festival deemed an outstanding successSaturday's first Food Lovers Festival saw Malton awash with happy visitors and even happier shopkeepers, restaurant and café owners and market stall holders. The Food Lovers Cookery Theatre, based right at the epi centre of the day in a specially designed marquee had on average 80 people to each of the demonstrations by local chefs and cooks, headed up by Andrew Pern, chef/patron at The Star, Harome.
He said "It was a great day for us all and especially the town. Everything is right here in the centre of Malton and such a friendly town, full of great shops and superb fresh foods".

And over at the Cattle market the poultry auction and sheep shearing drew a large crowd, with the fancy dress and cutest dog showing all comers what the town had to offer. There was wonderful food in all the restaurants and cafes - many having treble the amount of customers that usual. Joe Hammond from Wills Café Bar, chef for the Gourmet BBQ, said it was a fanatic day and great for them as they sold over 600 burgers and sausages, with meat supplied by Derek Fox. "At one time," Joe said, we had to go over the road and raid Derek's store of prime meats, to ensure everyone who was queuing got one of our specials".

The Farmers' Market in the Market Place is one of the biggest yet with over 30 stalls selling an abundance of fresh local produce. The new Saturday market was operational too.

The parking arrangements and free bus worked without a hitch and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves a very great deal, and seemed to "Love Malton".
