BUSINESS IN ACTION - NEWS UPDATE
Another of our monthly updates, letting you know what's gone on and what's planned for the future - all aimed at generating more business in Malton.
The new Town Ambassador, Sarah Lally-Marley, has been appointed and started working on June 8th. Hopefully you will meet her in the coming weeks - seize the chance to tell her what you want to see happening in Malton.
Malton Food Lover's Festival (Sat, May 30th)
Generally judged a great success - the Market Place "full and buzzing" and more folk milling around on a Saturday than most of us can ever remember.
Malton Fashion Bash (Tues, June 2nd)
Another success, with over 150 tickets sold for this evening event.
WHAT'S TO COME?
Following the success of the Malton Food Lover's Festival, we would like to encourage groups of local traders to get together to promote similar (albeit smaller-scale) events. Our plan is to approach you with a checklist of possible promotional ventures.
Malton hosts this event for the first time this year - a celebration of "all things Yorkshire". Do join in - wear a white rose, sell white silk roses for the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Dr John Sentamu, the Archbishop of York, will attend a service at St Michael's church.
We have been approached by the University of Hull (Scarborough campus) offering a series of commercial skills training sessions, for groups of up to eight people, between now and the end of this year. There will be no charges and applicants are invited to put themselves forward, nominating the issues they would like to see covered - in-store merchandising, e-marketing and customer service are some of the topics already suggested, but you may well have others which you feel could benefit you and/or your staff colleagues - and your business!. To find out more, use the "contact us" facility on our website: www.maltonandnorton.com and we will get in touch.
Funding from Rydale District Council has new been agreed to support a poster campaign promoting our town. Posters will go on display on buses and at railway stations. The website www.welovemalton.co.uk is now up and running (although not yet complete).
Malton Motor Show
Traditionally this event has been held on a Sunday but there are plans afoot to move it to a Saturday, when there are clearly more people in the town.
The debate goes on about the possibility of a new supermarket being built: there has been extensive coverage in the Gazette. If you have any views, please let us know via the website (see detail above).
Once again, please feel free to pass this News Update on to any business colleagues who may be interested, and to give us your feedback. Our next meeting (all are welcome) will be at 6.00pm at the Old Lodge Hotel on Wednesday, July 1st
