BUSINESS IN ACTION - NEWS UPDATE
1. Recent Events
Generally judged to have been a success. Motor dealers were happy on the day and have declared their willingness to come back next year (Sun, September 19th). The closure of Wheelgate to road traffic was a positive, with more people walking the street and no consequent traffic congestion.
Food Lovers Festival
Again a success. For next year we've discussed keeping the marquee open on one evening, maybe hosting music and a wine tasting/beer festival.
Footfall (the numbers of people walking in our town)
We have comprehensive data from RDC, showing the numbers of people in the town, by hour and by day. The figures clearly indicate peaks at lunchtime, on Saturdays, and on days when we have events taking place. You can access the statistics on The Ryedale District Council website - www.ryedale.co.uk.
2. 2009 - events to come
We're trying to organise something, maybe involving local schoolchildren and Ghost Walks
Fashion Bash (November 12th, Milton Rooms)
After the earlier successful event, we're repeating this. Participants and sponsors welcome.
Christmas Lights switch-on
After last year's success, we've planned this for November 27th. Carol singing is planned (again involving local children - and you adults!) and maybe extended opening hours for local traders.
Victorian Weekend (12th/13th December)
Lots of ideas flying around - music, fancy dress, Dickens. Have you any more to add?
3. 2010 Events
We have scheduled a meeting for Wednesday, October 21st (6.00pm at the Old Lodge) to plan next year's events. You're more than welcome to come along and get involved.
Business In Action have been joined by Graham Harris of the Roman Baths Museum in York (now a Malton resident). Graham is keen to promote the Roman connections with Malton and has suggested using a (crowd-pulling) re-enactment group and maybe a Roman Day next year.
As ever, we're keen to get your feedback on what's happened so far, and on what's planned for the future. In addition, any offers of help will be more than welcome! You can contact us at www.maltonandnorton.com
